is the UDC?
The Urban dream Capsule is a performance art installation that was first created in 1996 for the Melbourne International Festival of the arts in the Myer Melbourne windows. Five actors
lived inside the windows and installed a complete home with bathroom, kitchen
,living room and bedroom..
For over two
weeks, 24 hours a day the 5 "arts-tronauts lived their lives under
the constant regard of the public. This encapsulated living completely
captured the imaginations and fantasies of the public. Every day the public
grew larger as the public became a part of the dream capsule....
The questions
on everyone's lips, 'would they make the distance? Would they go mad?
Would they fight with each other?'
Every day the circles of communications grew larger and larger. The dream
capsule is an interactive experience for all involved. The thoughts, opinions,
images and beliefs of the public became the happy property of the ever-growing
public. A public space is created where people become comfortable with
sharing their dreams.
The Urban Dream Capsule in Melbourne was an enormous public and critical success. it received several awards including the best show of the festival.
